May 7, 1992 was a day to be remembered. That day, Dr. Samcell and Dr. Lucas, senior consultants of the International Nature and Natural Resources Protection Union on world relics, trusted by the UNESCO World Heritage Committee, made a special trip to Wulingyuan for an inspection of the local natural resources. The two doctors are both experts on world cultural and scenic relics. They have traveled all over the world and viewed various sorts of beautiful landscapes. In China, they have been to the Yellow Mountains, Mount Tai and many other scenic resorts. Now in Wulingyuan, they examined each landscape with a critical eye, questioned in detail the local government officials on the natural resources protection measures and development prospects. They scrutinized every kind of natural resources carefully and objectively. Seeing the unique landscapes of Wulingyuan, the 62-year-old Lucas was excited as a naughty boy and kept on exclaiming: ¡°OK! OK!¡± At the end of the inspection, he said, rather emotionally, ¡°The Yellow Dragon Cave is the most beautiful cave they have ever seen, in which there is an incredibly long underground river.¡± Dr. Samcell said, ¡°The natural scenery of Wulingyuan is indeed a wonder, which quite satisfies the third of the Four General Standards for landscapes to enter the list of world natural relics, i.e. landscapes with super natural phenomena, geosphere and landforms, such as wonderful evidences of vital eco-system, natural features, canyon landscapes with mass of animals, wonderful blent of unique landscape with rare cultures, etc.¡±
